Harbans Srih’s ‘The Wireman’ comes via the Funk Night label but only on a strictly limited 300 copies and it is sure to sell out because jazz-soul doesn’t get more authentic than this. The A-side title tune is a real adventure with live drums overlaid by a sultry sax line and spaced-out synth work. It’s multi-layered and hugely evocative. The B-side tune is more deep and mysterious, with curious melodies and an inquisitive sax tentatively leading you on through the night. Two beauties from this ever-excellent label. .
